New guidelines needed for more accurate groundwater modelling

March 26, 2019 WaterSource (Australian Water Association)

A lack of guidelines around groundwater modelling has led to inaccurate and unreliable results, a new paper has found. In Australia, groundwater makes up about 17% of accessible water and accounts for more than 30% of the country’s […]

What is a 1 in 100 year weather event? And why do they keep happening so often? via @ConversationEDU

What is a 1 in 100 year weather event? And why do they keep happening so often?

In any given year, there's a 1% chance of a 'once in a century' flood. But that doesn't mean they can't happen more than once in quick succession.

Biggest threat to sustainability of Basin’s food & communities is over extraction of water. Climate change is real but best way to adapt is to reduce extractions, not build new dams that will hardly ever fill.

The single most important resource underpinning Australia‘s food security is under threat

Average annual streamflow into the crucial Murray-Darling Basin could be up to 30 per cent less in 30 years time.
