Geoscience Australia’s Unlocking the Landsat Archive

Geoscience Australia has recently released a beta version of the Australian Reflectance Grid 25 (ARG25V). This means surface reflectance from the Landsat TM and ETM+ sensors (Landsat 5 and 7), corrected for atmospheric and BRDF effects.

The data are stored in the National Computing Infrastructure and are free of charge. It includes all cloud-free data from 2000 to 2010 for the Australian continent. I have recently (November 2013) checked it and it was being updated with imagery 2011 and 2012 and 1998-1999.

Go here to look at GA’s web site.

The data can be searched using the web interface.

Finally, Rob Woodcock from CSIRO has some useful tips for accessing the data using Python scripts on his blog.
